Living Room Designs That Work

The living room is one of the most frequented rooms in the home, next to the kitchen and bathroom. Many living rooms are in front of the home on the first floor, so they are one of the first rooms people see when entering a home. People tend to invest a lot of decorating energy in making this room attractive and inviting. There are many living room designs to choose from for virtually any home decorating style.

Living rooms are supposed to be spacious and comfortable spaces for people to use for relaxing and entertaining. Family members often use this space to unwind by reading, playing or watching television. It is also a space that is commonly used for entertaining guests, so it gets a good deal of notice. The right living room designs can serve as a great centerpiece that is stylish and appealing.

There are several room designs to choose from that are available in popular styles and themes. Well-known designs, such as the traditional, modern and country, each have their unique features and accents the make them their own. Home decorators can choose which style they want to focus on that will transform this space into the look they want.

Most living rooms are constructed with a traditional sectional couch, love seat and reclining chair. Many traditional spaces also feature hardwood floors and area rugs in the middle of the room. The room is capped off with attractive frames and nice accents on the mantle. A nice entertainment center also adds a nice touch and houses not only the television, but also music equipment and accessories.

Country living designs give living rooms a nice rustic, down-to-earth feel when people spend time in this living space. In addition to soft, comfortable couches and cozy chairs, people also add nice country accents, such as wreaths, framed, cross-stitched pictures and beautiful quilts to bring out the country look in the room. Big, soft couches and chairs, oblong-shaped coffee tables with soft colored walls make the room feel welcoming and comfortable.

Modern design styles include a unique styling pattern of furniture, color themes and lighting, just to name a few. Some modern living rooms may have odd shaped light stands or futon couches. Many of these designs have their own signature styles and accents that make them their own. Home decor consumers can look for good decor accents to complement the style they choose to use.

Blending a Traditional Living Room With the Modern High-Rise Experience

Part of the fun of decorating often comes from using design in creative and often surprising ways. Even if you live in a modern high-rise apartment, you can still enjoy a traditional style of decorating. If you'd like to add a traditional look and feel to your modern living room, here are some decorating tips to help get you started.

Bridging the Design Gap

If you think that a modern living room can't be decorated in a traditional style, think again. In fact, adding traditional touches can add a sense of warmth and charm that is often missing in many contemporary styles. Although you might not want to decorate in a strictly traditional style, there are certainly ways of blending sleek sophistication with traditional charm and grace. For example, you can bridge the design gap by choosing traditional furniture styles in cool colors such as gray, blue and sage, which will work wonderfully with the room's modern architectural features. Or, use the rich warm color palette that is so common in traditional decorating styles, such as burgundy, gold and deep green, combined with modern touches such as stylized metal wall art. Hang traditional oil paintings in sleek metal frames to seamlessly combine the two decorating styles. Preserve the beauty of your city skyline view by using window toppers in rich shades. Art Deco pieces are also quite useful for combining traditional and modern decorating styles. By combining traditional and contemporary styles, you can create a comfortable and attractive eclectic look that will be uniquely your own.

Traditional Furniture Styles

Instead of focusing on ornately decorated furniture, choose simpler pieces that will beautifully blend your modern apartment and traditional decorating style. Combine clean lines with opulent fabrics to incorporate the best of both decorating worlds. Choosing smaller pieces will also help keep your apartment looking sleek and spacious. Accessorizing a sofa or loveseat with a few throw pillows or a comfortable throw is also a great way of combining comfort and style. Dark colored wood can help add a traditional look. However, by choosing pieces that feature simple lines instead of carved detailing, you'll also add a sleek and stylish look.

Decorating Details for the Traditional Living Room

It's often the small decorating touches and details that can make or break a room's style. A well-placed art sculpture, decorative clock or interesting wall shelf can add a lot of visual interest to a room. Creating a focal point can also be a great way to define a room's style. A large potted tree, a collection of framed family portraits, or an oversized art print can all serve as a focal point. Even if your apartment features wall-to-wall carpeting, you might want to consider an area rug. Strategically placed rugs can add a very traditional look to a room, while also serving to visually unite seating areas and room design features. By adding traditional styling details to your sleek high-rise apartment living room, you'll be able to create a cozy living space that you'll love coming home to.

feng shui living room principles are:
Create more Yin atmosphere if you want to bring more comfort, reduce arguments and tension at home. Use large cushy sofa, long rich curtains, soft natural materials and carpets…..in any combination of deep green, lighter brown and golden colors. Try to buy only furniture and sofa sets with nicely flowing round corners. Decorate with curvy items and round shapes. Bring in beautiful plants with large round shaped leaves, as according to feng shui, soil chi will help to calm fire chi in the room.

In feng shui, your windows represents your "eyes". They let you see the future. Therefore keep your windows clean and beautiful. Take advantage of all sorts of window coverings, such as wood blinds or shutters, soft shades or romantic valances. They will add soft shapes, natural materials and colors that enhance positive chi and make your family members and guests relax and enjoy time spent together.

There are suitable window treatments like custom pleated shades that helps create the ambiance that you want the room to project to your guests.

Avoid bright colors, especially red as it adds more argumentative chi as well. Use pieces of decorative fabric or plant to cover all pointy furniture or protruding wall corners to eliminate dangerous, sharp chi. Or, you can hang faceted crystal on 9” or 9 cm red ribbon in front of sharp wall corner.
